MMSN11 -N. Comstock High Grade Silver-Gold Ore


Dark and light gray minerals are often high grade silver minerals as noted in the placard.
This specimen is dimpled with visible free gold.
Yellowish-orange colored quartz like portions can be "Electrum", a natural alloy of gold and silver. High grade Electrum was used by the Roman Empire to make their coinage.

Typical minerals of the north Comstock: Argentite, Stephanite, Electrum and native Gold.
Stephanite often so black seeming to absorb all light and in other conditions it it has a dark blue cast.
Argentite is often a light to medium gray. Stephanite and Argentite are minerals of silver.
Electrum is a natural alloy of gold and silver having golden coloration in transparent material like quartz.
